Jordan’s Handy People are committed to helping those in need with routine maintenance repairs and projects around the home, and to share the gift of love and forgiveness that God has for us all. The work we do is help those who cannot help themselves due to personal limitations, burdens, needs or heavy hearts. Our service is born from the Lord’s encouragement to “Look after orphans and widows in their distress” (James 1:27).
While the primary intent of this group is to assist widows, seniors and single moms who are less capable of accomplishing these types of repairs the needs of other families will be considered on a case by case basis.
What We Do
Handy People use their labor and knowledge to make house calls to repair and maintain homes as well as appliances. Generally we limit jobs to ones that can be completed within a few hours. Here area few examples of possible projects that could be requested:
- Repair a loose railing
- Fixing a leaking faucet
- Repairing a hole in a wall
Cost for our services
We will make a good faith estimate of the cost of materials, but the actual cost may be more than estimated. Clients will cover the cost of materials to complete a job. The client will be asked to either accompany the volunteer to make purchases or provide money for the volunteer to make purchases. All receipts will be turned over to the client. At times, donations are received to defer some costs however that is based on availability and need level.
Anyone wishing to give thanks for the service they have received may make donations to

Who We Are
Those serving in this ministry are members of Jordan Lutheran Church who wish to serve the community and the church with their skills and talents. This is a volunteer organization and members receive no financial compensation for the services they provide. Some volunteers have full time employment in construction, building maintenance or related trades. Others have developed their skills and knowledge from maintaining their own homes, as volunteers, in a trade school, or in other volunteer organizations.
Why We Serve
- to show the love of God.
- to serve the community we live in
- to invite our neighbors to worship with us
What We Don’t Do
We are not able to address emergency repairs. Handy People are not able to provide a guarantee or warranty on labor. We attempt to do our best and will advise our clients on requests they are making, however the client must assume the risks of job creep, faulty repairs, and materials.
